3D TECHNOLOGY: A NEW DIMENSION FOR JOURNALISM

3D is basically the use technology on a 3 dimensional platform which may be of wide and clerical nature.

Journalism is dissemination of messages which have been assessed as suitable for the mass

3D A NEW DIMENSION FOR JOURNALISM

As technologies keep advancing and changing, the world also is being revolutionized and so is journalism as a sphere. 3D is helping set new dimensions for journalists through many technologies which have been introduced. one such technology to set a new dimension for journalism is the occulus rift.

The occulus rift is a prototype which is a virtual reality headset. It sets a new dimension for journalism in that it helps view virtually realistic information for the journalist, helping them gather information virtually without having to be at the place.

One other technology is the 3D printer. This device helps in creation of 3D solid objects that may be useful for journalists. A journalist may come up with a virtual object which they may put into reality with help of the printer

Basically, 3D printers help in putting into reality a journalists journalistic thoughts setting a dimension for innovative journalistic art.
Many of these technologies will help set up platforms for journalist to put to reality their thoughts. They may help journalists see beyond a world which is real to them, helping them convey information which is both interesting and realistic enough for the audience to be attracted.

In conclusion, so many 3D technologies are being thought of, thus it is helping set new dimensions for not only journalism, but lets say innovative journalistic standards which is setting a unique, interesting and attractive standard way of conveying information to the mass. 3D is the soul to new doors for journalists all over the world.

              INBUILT AND MOBILE(OB VAN) STUDIOS

What is an Inbuilt Studio?
An Inbuilt studio is a system of operation with use of built-in functions of recording, news coverage etc that take place within the vicinity of an organisation or home etc.

What is a Mobile Studio?
A Mobile studio is a system of operation with use of out-door functions used for recording, coverage etc with help of satellite up-link built in a movable device such as an Out Door Broadcasting van(OB Van.)

ADVANTAGES FOR BUILT-IN STUDIOS
-Unwanted sound ambiance can be avoided.
-It can be made within our comfort vicinity
-Protection for example during news coverage is at least present

DISADVANTAGES
-Immovable thus news coverage is limited
-Though news coverage can be live, it won't be as good as having a journalist at the exact spot thus its some what not exciting.
-Cannot be moved to wanted location, as its functions are fixed

ADVANTAGES FOR MOBILE STUDIOS
-Can be anywhere at anytime, thus news coverage for example can be live on the spot that it happened, making the journalist able to feel the atmosphere of the happening
-The studio can be moved to wanted location
-They are adventuresome

DISADVANTAGES
-Unwanted ambiance cannot be avoided
-Protection is limited for example during news coverage

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INBUILT AND OUTDOOR OR MOBILE STUDIOS

-While Mobile studios have the privilege of Coverage at location of happening, inbuilt have a dependence on the mobile studio in the field to have a view of a particular news happening as the are confined within the vicinity of location.
- As most organisations will have security for many reasons, inbuilt studios have that peace of thought, while for outdoor broadcasting, safety is self mandatory thus when news coverage is taking place for example in a war zone, one needs to protect his or herself as security will not be assured.
-Functions of an inbuilt studio are fixed while for outdoor or mobile, they are detachable as it is its purpose due to the fact its mobile and not stationed.

All in all, both studios have benefits of there own, both are reliable and are somewhat dependent on each other making them both important for news coverage and other operations that can be done with there use.

                          VISUAL JOURNALISM

What is Visual Journalism?
Visual Journalism is basically the combination of words and images to convey information.
Visual Journalism has its roots dated back to ancient cave paintings. Visual Journalism is not a series of symbols with meaning, but rather images suggesting complex meanings.

As quoted by Head Of Communications at Canva, Zach Kitscheke,
he defines visual journalism as " The act of making your point through images and is one of the most important skills that you as a journalist can take into account."

He refers its importance towards social media such as Blogs, Facebook,Twitter etc, which is basically the use of images and words to convey messages.

An estimation of over 1.8 billion people are known to have active social media accounts, which makes visual journalism at the top of the charts as being most effective way of disseminating journalistic findings to media users. Many are the times it has been proven that words and pictures stick or are more re collective to the human mind especially if that particular set of words and imagery is or seems interesting. Visual Journalism is more of a journalists voice with use of images and words, which makes journalistic creativity have a conversion on paper. visual journalism not only explores the journalists creativity, but also explores the audiences retention to that particular set of imagery and words creating a network of brainstorming thought.
Print media is also a form of visual journalistic creativity as it incorporates words with pictures to inform, educate and entertain.

                           3D AND JOURNALISM

3D is basically the quality of being three dimensional. Three dimensional shapes are those shapes which are the outcome of a flat object being defined or adding life to flatness of an object. In 3D, we important terms which are 3D rendering and Texture.

What is 3D rendering?
This the process of converting a 3D model into a 2D image with 3D photo realistic rendering on a computer.

What is Texture?
Texture is the feel, appearance or consistency of a surface or substance.Texture as directed to 3D graphics is the representation of surface of an object.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 3D OBJECT AND A 2D OBJECT?

In a computer work space, the difference between 3D and 2D is that, 2D is "Flat" and uses the horizontal and vertical (X and Y) dimensions and the image only has two dimensions and if  turned to the side becomes a line. When depth (Z) is added to the image, it becomes a 3D object, thus the difference.

2D is more of a sketch of what has to be made and when life is given to that particular sketch, it becomes a 3D model.

HOW IS 3D ENABLING CHANGE IN JOURNALISM

With time comes evolution. 3D has helped add a more realistic approach to journalism with various innovations like 3D printing.

What is 3D Printing?
3D Printing refers to various processes of synthesizing a 3 dimensional object. It may also be referred to as Additive Manufacturing (AM)

In the process of 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under the computer to create an object. These objects come in any form, shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.

3D journalism is not only confined to 3D printing, but also has other various forms for example Gone Gitmo

What is "Gone Gitmo?"
It is a project by former journalist named De Le Penas. The project was  used to depict evidence about detention centers  and experiences inmates there to create a life like representation of what being imprisoned would be like and included audio clips that recreated certain sounds and diary entries.

Another 3D project is that of Oculus Rift: An invention by Palmer Luckey
With Oculus Rift, participants in a news story are allowed privilege to experience news as portrayed in for example the war in Afghanistan. The participant has an inside look, which makes it more interesting

The innovations are creating a positive impact on journalism in that the audience feel more included and also experience journalism like never before. So many innovations are still coming up, which making a positive change to journalism, but bearing in mind that the old way of journalism should not fade or be forgotten as "Old is Gold."
